Paola Ravasio

Paola Ravasio born in 1978 in Varese. After having attended the School of Arts Frattini in her city, she moved to Carrara where she learned to work with marble. Back in Varese, she continued and expanded her research at Pietro Scampini's atelier. Her sculptures are the essence of energy, expressed through stretched muscles and tangled bodies, which constantly try to escape from the modular and geometrical structures entrapping them. This endless blending between static and sinuous shapes creates hard-hitting contrasts, though toned down by the smooth surfaces. Large and small works full of tension, an elixir of energy, vigour and personality.
Paola Ravasio realized various solo and group exhibitions in Italy, Ticino, Switzerland and participated to many Art Fairs (Verona, Genoa, Bergamo and Strasbourg). In 2014 she won the first edition of the Premio Sangregorio. One of her bronze sculptures is located in the public gardens in Sondrio. She lives and works in Caronno Varesino, near Varese.

Daniela Croci Silvuni

Minute, thin, bashful, nervous hands, sometimes concealed as if she wouldn’t like to reveal the secrets of her know how. Lively, intense eyes, which can brighten or darken according to her feelings and emotions, as to mirror the real values she believes in. Paola Ravasio is a true artist. Her works are deeply connected to her soul, they are not tricks made up to amuse the audience, they are made to astonish it.

Extremely powerful sculptures composed of white and velvety matter, as plaster or fiberglass, struck the audience filling it with a magnetic attraction. The artistic message by Paola Ravasio is clear: she narrates our nature, revealing the struggle for life and the wish for realization cultivated within our souls.

Despite being only 34 years old, Ravasio has already developed a mature and personal language, demonstrating the originality and uniqueness of her artistic code. Her constant research for Vital Energy, results into an unlimited source of motivation and resolution which transforms her sculptures into a message of real hope: “Man has all the resources he needs to overcome difficulties, and he must rely on this asset to fight and win his personal battle”.

STRENGHT. The key word which turns into LIFE able to defeat NON LIFE. The anthropomorphous figures by Paola Ravasio are enlivened by pure energy, opposed to the obtuse geometry of a cold, rational, ataraxic matter. They are embryonic human beings who will to born within freedom.

Within [NEW] LIFE different works by the artist are shown: a high relief, almost a full relief, made in fiberglass, and others for which white and “humble” plaster has been moulded by Ravasio’s hands. Light is the main ally of the artist: through unexpected reflections or sinuous and dusty presences it animates her sculptures. However, it is Paola Ravasio who gifts them with voice and freedom from bonds.
